We spend so much time online, whether it be on Facebook, Instagram, or even creating our own websites. It is important to start thinking about these items, we call them digital assets, and how to preserve them and protect them long term.
What Qualifies as a Digital Asset?
A digital asset can be anything varying from online shopping accounts that you may have, Facebook account, Instagram, or websites. You may also have health information stored online. A lot of these activities that we conduct on a day-to-day basis online on our computers are considered digital assets.
How do you Protect Your Digital Assets?
Upon death, it is important to make sure that your estate plan includes your digital assets. Naming an executor and someone with authority to handle your digital assets once you have passed away is very important. We want to make sure that your executor has the clear authority to manage your digital assets once you have passed in accordance with your wishes.
